Video Research

After putting music to my art instillation, it felt slightly more like a music video so i looked at videos which interested me and also used colour in an interesting way because my video starts in black and white and the colour changes to match the song. I found this video really interesting because it used so much colour and technically was very clever using stop animation.

Video

After having a go at making my initial idea i found that it was very difficult to keep the hand in the same place throughout the video and to keep a smooth pull of the zip. I therefore decided to slightly change the video and it now consists of a boy and a girl taking off different parts of clothing and i purposefully tried to cut out the face sso that the focus was on what was happening with the fixings and fastenings rather than the faces. I added a soundtrack and some bright colours and the project is coming along really well.
I am still in the editing process but i will post the video when it is completed.

Art Video

This is the kind of angle i want to use to take my video, and keeping the hand where it is, just moving over a zipper, buttons, tape, a stapler, doing up a shoe lace and unscrewing screws

Art Storyboard Final Idea

I've decided that the video i produce will be on a loop, and i want the transitions between fastening to fastening to be as seamless as possible. This will mean laying all the fixings and fastenings out and then panning a hand moving across all of them. The only sound will be of the fixings and fastenings movig, for example the zip being zipped and buttons being undone. The footage will probably last a couple of minutes.

Shoe Idea

I had the idea of putting shoes to feet that kind of mathched and i have done a lot of work on this in my sketchbook and this was just an idea for having a go digitally. For my final piece i want to print of some photographs similar to this.

Installation

"A video projection used in the installation Blind created by artist Jane Gilmor for AIR Gallery in 2005. A hand endlessly unzips a zipper embedded in camoflaug. The 10 ft high image is projected on a large column and a corner in the gallery"

i like this idea , with a constant moving zip, but for my animation i would like to use alot more clips with a fast transtition but also with sound i feel that it would make the video seem more realitic and interesting , i'd like to look at buttons and poppers aswel.

Development

After scanning in a drawing i had done i continued to manipulate it. I'm really happy with this outcome but i now want to try using a different image, possibly from a photograph but i like the idea of fabric being used as skin and i think the text adds another dimension to this.

Development of ideas

Dress

these are some photo's of the dress/vest so far. I wanted to create a garment or at least something that could just be worn that displayed a range of different fastenings and fixings and this is my start

Research

I have looked at Chris Milk's work for my photography A2 aswel and i really like the idea of short, quick shots of movement and using a lot of colour.

Initial Idea

My initial idea for making a short film for my artwork is to film a number of different fixings & fastenings being used. Everything from shoe laces to zips, buttons, screws and padlocks. I'd like to make the clips very short and then play it on a loop, with the sound of the fixing or fastening, for example the sound of a zip i feel would be really intersting.

Fixings, fastenings and upholstery
Question:
How do artists and designers use Fixings, fastenings and upholstery for their aesthetic qualities?
